The rest of our trip was filled with trees. I have never seen so many stunningly coloured autumnal trees, mind blowing, the boys were tired of me going on about it:
“Look over there, look at that tree”,
“Umm, yes Mummy, another orange leaved tree”.
“But look! It’s absolutely stunning!”
We visited Dufus castle and they rolled down the bank getting terribly grubby but such is life with feral children.
And we finally found Templestone circle, after a couple of years of searching. It was a coincidental visit, the lady who owns the property on which the circle sits had lost her husband suddenly 6 months ago: “He just dropped dead right there”, she said, pointing to a spot a few metres away from where we stood looking at a menhir. “He was 4 weeks away from turning 60. Heart. Covid”. We had a lot in common, not just grief, but an interest in mental wellbeing, yoga, Shetland and stone circles. Funny how life unfolds.
Back here on Guernsey, ten minutes into the session with my first client, I heard the most exquisite bird song from the willow tree outside the front window, which stopped me in the moment. I have never hear a tune quite so clear, quite so beautiful.
This felt like a gift from the practice.
The yoga was sensational with Louise. I know now why we don’t want to mess with the breath. I know now with deeper awareness why we don’t want to mess with the spine.
This practice gifts an incredible aliveness.
We deep dived into the pelvis and there is a certain freedom, a certain awareness, a certain feeling that wasn’t there previously.
A lightness that runs through the spine, a breath that talks of other dimensions.
It is the attention that this practice brings that changes things. This is yoga that quietens my frontal lobe, that frees the mind from it’s sense of right/wrong.
Watching Louise teach her dedicated community was humbling and inspiring. I am keen to share. We need this practice as the world changes at exponential speed. . Because it gifts us, amongst other things, the opportunity to stay present amidst uncertainty.
And while the process can be tricky, the unfolding and letting go, the beginning again in each moment, there is a richness and a love, a vitality and aliveness that cannot be bought or sold. In this world of transaction, that is a rare thing.
This is not exercise yoga, or yoga for Instagram. This is far richer. It gifts life. That too is a rare thing.
Look out for some new classes coming, a Tuesday intimate and a lunchtime class too.
The great thing about this practice is it doesn’t matter about age, fitness or level of experience as we are always beginning again, and the movements come from the spine, so we are not imposing ourselves on the body - instead allowing it, it’s natural intelligence. What a joy! What a blessing! I encourage you to have a go. It’s multi-dimensional.
