Where attention goes, energy flows - creating your best life
In the Vedic tradition, there is a relatively simple concept, which is also - paradoxically - incredibly complex:
I am that, you are that, all this is that, and that is all there is.
Essentially, what this means is that everything in our physical existence, from the stars to galaxies, from the stones to the flowers, from the sea to the mountains and to us as human beings, we were all manifest from the same source. And that source was a conscious and intelligent primordial energy that existed before all matter was manifest.
In the Vedic tradition, this is called the ‘akashic field’ - the outcome of which in modern terms, we call the Big Bang, from which everything in physical existence emerged.
In Vedic philosophy therefore, the akashic field is regarded as the foundation of the material world in which we live. However from an Ayurvedic perspective, this physical matter is not really physical matter at all, but instead vibrational energy - we are all vibrating at a certain resonance.
It is this vibrational energy that allows our healing, and it also allows us our transformation.
Both Reiki and yoga, let alone Ayurveda, work on the basis of vibrational energy - this is how we heal and transform. This is why we always feel better after receiving/giving Reiki, getting on our yoga mat and following an Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle - as the upward vibrational shift makes us feel hugely better, it can heal us and allow more of our potential.
To explain further, obviously everything in the material existence, including you and whatever you are reading this on, is made up of atoms, which are described as the building blocks of all matter in the universe.
But here’s the exciting thing - as quantum physicists began to explore the structure of the atom in greater detail, ever smaller subatomic particles were discovered until, as they continued looking, all physical and tangible mater disappeared. So much so, that it is now an accepted scientific fact (which must make it true:-)) that atoms are made up of 99.99999999% empty space. And what this essentially means is that everything in physical existence, including your body, also compromises 99.99999999% empty space because your body is simply an accumulation of atoms.
However this space is not a nothingness, this space (as proven by scientists, so again we can now take it as a truth, sigh), is made up of unimaginably concentrated vibrating energy - and this is how things change.
Because this essentially means that every physical thing in existence, including our bodies, is also exclusively made up of energy. Which is why Reiki, Yoga and Ayurveda really make a difference, these are energy based practices, which shift our consciousness, as consciousness is essentially energy.
Of course we have known this for an awfully long time, maybe 5,000 years, from a Vedic and yogic perspective, but of course now that science has proven it, we can finally accept it, which is a relief:-)
But what’s more, science has also now proven that this energy can exist as particle energy or wave energy and whether a subatomic particle exists as one or the other, particle or wave energy, is now known as the famous ‘observer effect’.
This means that when scientists have put their conscious attention on any one electron in their attempt to study it, that electron instantly appeared in physical form. But as soon a they took their attention away, the reverse occurred and it instantly disappeared back into pure wave energy - this is profound, because what it proves is that virtually all matter exists as vibrating wave energy until it is manifested back into physical particle energy.
This is basically mind over matter.
Which is why yoga is so amazing, as it is all about working with the mind - understanding the mind, overcoming the obstacles of the mind and seeing beyond the mind.
And what is really exciting is that because these subatomic don’t follow the ‘normal rules’ of time and space, they can appear in an infinite number of possible ways and locations at any one time. Thus, at a subatomic level, every possible outcome already exists as pure potential.
However, whatever occurs - the event or reality that actually plays out in front of us - is dependent upon where we put our attention.
For example, when a scientist studying these subatomic particles placed her attention on a particular location, the particle she was studying would appear scientifically in that location in time and space. But, if she had chosen to place her attention in a different location, the same particle would have appeared there. Both outcomes existed as pure potential, but the one that actually occurred was dictated by where her attention was placed.
What this means essentially proves is that not only do Reiki, yoga and Ayurveda make a huge difference but imagery and visualisation practices have the power to bring about significant change too.
This is because at the level of energy, which makes up 99.99999999% of everything, including us, every possible outcome exists as a potential quantum reality. And we have the capacity to direct this potential into a specific and chosen outcome via the placing of our conscious energy onto it.
Where attention goes, energy flows.
What this means is that when you use detailed and creative imagery to envision a future outcome such as good health, realising long-term goals, healing from disease, living your best life - that reality already exists somewhere at the quantum level as a potential outcome.
It goes without saying then, that imagery and visualisation practices are extremely powerful in bringing about change. The only thing that gets in our way is our limited belief system (already you may be putting up some resistance to the words you are reading), our negative thinking (on some level we don’t want to change), our lack of consciousness (closed down) and our despondence (we don’t have the energy).
However, if you are able to create in your mind incredibly detailed and emotionally driven imagery scripts of a future you want to experience and live, at the level of your consciousness, you would actually be inhabiting that future event right now because, neurologically speaking, a detailed image of a future event seen in great detail is as real as an actual image observed in the present moment.
many of you do this anyway, to an extent, when practising Yoga Nidra. But this takes it a step further in many ways because of the visualisation aspect.
Needless to say the more time we spend imagining and envisioning this future, the more attention we put to it. And as shared above, where attention goes, energy flows. So by consciously placing our attention on a future reality you are aiming towards, using the practice of guided imagery, you massively increase the chance of that reality maturing into physical reality.
How do you do this?
First you need to identify your goals. Spend time alone - what are you passions? What do you want from your life? Are you trying to heal from disease or a health issue? Do you want a change in career? Are you ready for greater love and intimacy? The key thing is to think long term. It is also important that the goals you set are specific and not vague.
2. Once you have identified your goals and identified a variety of time frames, you need to regularly spend time creating vivid and detailed imagery of yourself achieving those goals. This is where a vision board can be really helpful. I have worked with this for years now, so too the manifestation mandala that forms part of the Reiki Level Two manual.
3. The former is where you collect images from magazines and off the internet, which depict your future goals, dreams and wishes, which you can stick on a piece of paper with a picture of you on there too.
The latter can include a vision board, but often we just write down our goals and add the Reiki symbols before giving the piece of paper Reiki to help bring greater energy to it.
But there is really no right or wrong way of creating goal-setting imagery. The important thing is to remember you to create as much vivid detail in the imagery as possible. Always go with what feels right for you.
It can be extremely helpful though regardless of vision boards or manifestation mandalas to do the following:
Select one of your goals (such as teaching yoga, walking up a mountain, having your own healing space, being pregnant etc.) and then visualise yourself achieving that goal in as much detail as possible.
Imagine what it would feel like when you reach that goal - emotionally and physically; what emotions would it evoke, how would you feel? The more emotion you bring to the exercise the better.
Who would you be with when you reach your goal? How would you feel? What would you do afterwards?
In every aspect of the imagery, really try to evoke as much detail as possible - imagine the colours, noises, the location, atmosphere, environment etc.
4. Then work backwards and list the stages you need to go through to achieve that goal (the foods you need to eat, the treatments you need to have, the courses you need to undertake etc.)
5. Finally, imagine yourself reaching and ticking off those stages.
It’s really rather exicting because our mind is extremely powerful. I have used this approach many times in my life and it really works!
If you are reading this, then it is time now to truly realise and acknowledge the infinite potential for healing and transformation that lies within your mind. The more you work with this, the more you will realise that you really can realise more of your potential in this lifetime, that it is never too late. In the process you will likely experience increased energy, vitality, hopefulness and, essentially, healing.
And of course a regular yoga practice, receiving/giving Reiki and following an Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle can make a HUGE difference too.
