Books, audios & CDs

Emma is passionate about writing and about sharing in a way that may help others.

This was the motivation for writing her four published books, not only to fulfil a long held dream to write books, but to help others who might be navigating depression and mental health challenges (From Darkness Comes Light), those navigating fertility, IVF, pregnancy, birth and early motherhood (Dancing with the Moon), those wanting to integrate yoga into their family life (The Family Yoga Book) and those who might want to learn more about Nepal and the journey trekking can take us on (Namaste).

All 4 books are available to purchase on Amazon.

Emma has recorded a number of audios so that you can practice in the comfort of your own home. You can download the audios on iTunes or buy physical copies of the CD below. Alternatively, you can buy the CD directly from Emma - simply email emma@beinspiredby.co.uk.

From Darkness Comes Light

This book is an offering from the heart; it can be a compass to navigate depression and a chart to follow. It is a way forward, are beginning to your journey.

Depression can be a gift. It’s a strange idea, I know, but a freeing one. Gifts come in all shapes and sizes. You just need to understand and be at peace with this one.

If you can find the strength and courage to view your life from a soulful, elevated position, your challenges and your fears become your teachers. Those aspects of yourself that you keep to the shadows become clearer, and then you can be precise and you can act.

If you are ready to make a change, to turn the page and start a new chapter, you can find the support and the community to help you move forward. From adversity there is growth; from weakness we find strength; from darkness comes light…

The Family Yoga Book

Yoga positively transforms lives and enhances wellbeing. It can also help to enhance relationships and bring greater happiness to families - happy families make the world a more peaceful and happier place too, what’s there not to love about that?
There’s no need to worry about your age or whether you can touch your toes, yoga really is for everyone. All it asks is that you turn up exactly as you are and practise, practise, practise – it really is that easy.
Emma has tried to make it super easy for you too, choosing 35 of her favourite and most accessible poses for you to practise, and provided a whole heap of photos, information and tips so that you can feel safe practising at home on your own or with your family.
You won’t regret practising yoga, you can be assured that you, your family and the world as a whole will be better off for it!

Namaste: My Everest Journey

Yoga and Reiki Master Teacher, Emma Després, has always been drawn to travel and learning about new cultures. So when the opportunity arose to trek to Everest Base Camp and volunteer at a Nepali village school, she jumped at it. Not only was it a great excuse to leave her corporate life and an on/off relationship behind, but it also gave her the chance to connect with the spiritual energy of the sacred Himalayas, and offer her some welcome breathing space to consider her next steps in life. However, it was only when she got off the plane in Lukla that she realised her daily yoga practice had not exactly equipped her for trekking up the world’s tallest mountain. Namaste charts her physical, emotional and spiritual journey through the various stages of her climb to and from Base Camp. As her body battled freezing temperatures and very thin air, her mind had to stay motivated as she took a long hard look at herself. Facing some home truths proved harder than dealing with the terrifying suspension bridges (don’t look down). Her passion for the mountains and her love of Nepal and the Nepali people shines through this inspiring and honest account of a life-changing journey.

Dancing with the Moon

As a yoga teacher and Reiki master, I am very much in tune with energies and connected to all things holistic. I had imagined that I would conceive in a beautiful, romantic, natural and conscious way, on a bed of rose petals under a starry night. Don’t laugh! However, at 36, after a year of trying (and failing) to conceive, my fears were confirmed: we were told we may never have children. Humbled by this sobering truth, I realised I would have to throw myself into the world of science, hook, line and sinker, if there was any chance of motherhood. I don’t even normally take any medicines and suddenly, I was injecting myself with synthetic hormones, having the most invasive of examinations, and manipulating my hormonal system with drugs. Dancing with the Moon is my journey, my way of incorporating elements of the spiritual and the holistic into such a clinical process. Although different for each couple, IVF is an incredibly challenging and exhausting process, both physically, mentally and emotionally. I hope that in sharing how I navigated my way through the process, I can help other women feel more at ease and, crucially, able to maintain a positive mindset on their own IVF journeys.

By popular demand, a NEW short 23 minute yoga practice audio is now available, making it even easier to ‘wake and stretch’ in the morning, the afternoon or after work.  Suitable for all levels of ability.

Hayley Le Marquand

For me "Wake and Stretch" is a great way to wake up the body and mind in a gentle way before moving into the day, a nice short practice fantastic for the early morning when I am more time constrained. However, I even use this practice as a preparation for sitting in meditation at other times of the day especially in the evening. Applicable to all levels and easy to fit into even the busiest of schedules, I highly recommend starting the day with this clearly guided more gentle practice.

Emma’s ‘Daily Practice’ CD is a wonderful guided yoga sequence that clearly leads you through simple pranayama to connect with the breath, before wakening the body with gentle movement. Emma then takes you through a series of flowing asanas, including some balancing poses, back bends and spinal twists before finishing up with a relaxation. I’d recommend this CD for all levels, including beginners, as Emma offers variations on the poses as well as a few challenges, if you so wish.

'The yoga I had experienced before I tried Emma's classes was very slow and although relaxing, I didn't feel like I had achieved anything physically. The reason I love Emma's style so much is because it flows so well and makes you feel like you've had a workout! This combined with the added feeling of mental calm, makes you feel completely chilled out yet energised at the same time. Her Yoga Home Practice DVD is a great way of practicing Emma's style of yoga at home especially good when you can't make it to class.'

Yoga Nidra is a powerful meditation technique inducing complete physical, emotional and mental relaxation. During Yoga Nidra one appears to be asleep but the consciousness is functioning at a deeper level of awareness so that we are encouraged to release deep seated tensions of body and mind. There are physiological benefits too, such as lowering of the heart rate and blood pressure, the release of lactate from the muscles that can cause anxiety and fatigue, a more restful night’s sleep and, ultimately, a calming and unwinding of the nervous system, which is basically the foundation of the body’s wellbeing. The practice offers the potential for transforming lives in a more positive direction improving our physical health and sense of wellbeing. All you need to do is lie down, cover yourself with a blanket and listen to the CD.Tanya DorrityInterestingly my nine year old son now asks to do ‘Nidra’ as he calls it when he has had a bad day at school or is finding it difficult to unwind. For example if he has a big athletics race the next day and he is worried about it he will lie on the floor in his bedroom, with a blanket, in the dark and listen to the CD – he always sleeps well after and says his mind is ‘calm’ after it – not a bad technique for a nine year old boy! I have also sent the CD to my brother in Australia who suffers from ‘anxiety’. He often uses the CD to help him through difficult times.

Tense, stressed or just need some time out? Then this 30 minute audio yoga practice is for you. Suitable for all levels of ability, this gentle sequence focuses on the hips, hamstrings and shoulders - all the areas that accumulate stress and tension in daily life - to promote a sense of calmness and peacefulness to enable a more restful sleep.

Hayley Le Marquand

Another well balanced asana practice from Emma of a half hour duration, easy to fit into any busy schedule. Emma puts lots of focus on awareness of breath, internalising awareness of the body and softening into the poses; I’m left feeling calm and renewed at the end of the practice. With Emma’s soft tone and relaxing music to guide the journey, I would recommend this practice for all levels.
