Yoga to Celebrate Imbolc

On Sunday 2 February from 4-5.15pm, there will be a celebration of winter’s ending through yoga, all welcome!

Imbolc fascinates me as it marks the point in the year when the first stirrings of spring become visible – although still cold, the light is clearly returning and some early flowers, such as snowdrops will be out.

It’s a magical time of potent energy, like the beginning of the inhalation that arises from the darkness and depths of the exhalation, the spark that gives rise to new life, full of potential.

Together, in circle, we will explore this energy and how it affects us and how we feel, as we celebrate the reawakening Earth and the potential of manifestation at this time. The focus is on the return of the light and the sun and what we hope to achieve this coming summer; we acknowledge this reality in the natural world around us and the symbolism of this in our own lives too.

The session will include prānāyāma (breathing exercises), gentle floor based āsana (postures) to awaken our energy centres, poetry, and a 20-minute yoga nidra. Goddess cards will be available at the end of the session.

Candles will be lit to represent the return of the light as the Sun’s energy begins to increase. In Celtic tradition, the Triple Goddess has become her virgin self again, known as Brigid, the maiden, keeper of the sacred fire. Her attributes are intuition, inspiration, divination, the spark of life. Her life-giving waters are scared springs and holy wells of our land. She is a preserver of the tradition through poetry and song. Please feel to bring an offering for the altar (such as crystal, flower, leaf, feather, sacred water etc, which you can take away with you after the session).
