About Ayurveda

Meaning ‘the science of life’, Ayurveda is the most ancient and authentically recorded health system in history. It was created by over 5,000 and views health in four dimensions - physical, sensory (emotions, thoughts and feelings), mental and spiritual.

Centred on preventative medicine, as well as bringing people back to balance, Ayurveda looks at the whole body to see if, and where, imbalances in one part of a person’s life may be affecting another part of their life. For instance, if a person is not being true to their life path (dharma) then physical and mental illness can arise which cannot always be effectively treated with modern medicines but can helped by Ayurveda.

Ayurvedic uses elemental medicines which balance out earth, fire, water, air and ether within the body. These are divided into three doshas - vita, pitta and kapha - which are the basis of a person’s constitution, and also the factors within the body that can create an imbalance. Using a combination of nutrition, lifestyle, yoga, meditation, massage and herbal medicine Ayurveda helps bring a person back to health, and keep them there.
