A Happy Healthy Start to 2017 - The Power of Intention - A New Year's Ceremony

In the Indian tradition it is said that what you do on the first day of the year sets the tone for the new year. So what better way to begin 2017 and set your CLEAR INTENTION for the year ahead than BY getting on your mat and practicing some yoga (ditch the resolutions, they don’t work and merely make you feel bad about yourself!).

Together we will CELEBRATE the NEW YEAR with an active and energising yoga practice, linking breath with movement so that we can clear our the old and create more space for the new. We will finish with a powerfully transformative Yoga Nidra where you may truly plant your seed of intention for the year ahead.

At the end of the class, you are invited to join Emma as you privately write down your intention(s) for 2017 on a piece of paper and seal this in an envelope which Emma will retain and send to you at the end of 2017 – there is power and magic in clear intention!

Drop-in, all welcome, please bring a blanket for relaxation.

Goodbye 2016, Hello 2017 - Class with a burning bowl ceremony

It’s that time of year again to LET GO of anything you do not want to take with you into the NEW YEAR so you may begin 2017 LIGHTER and BRIGHTER and ready to invite in the NEW!

Together we will enjoy a flowing ASANA (posture) practice linking breath with movement and checking in with our own wisdom to see where we can adjust things (alignment and thought process). It’s in this way that we can start embodying change, encouraging us to LET GO and do things differently! We will finish the session with a chakra balancing RELAXATION, leaving you feeling centred and grounded ahead of the new year.

Those who wish will then have the opportunity to join Emma in a BURNING BOWL CEREMONY where we privately write down all the things we do not want to take with us into 2017 before popping the paper in an envelope, which Emma will take home and burn in her bowl.

All welcome, drop-in.

Goddesses at Ease: Gentle Yoga to Support the Sacred Feminine During the Changing Season

Yoga 002.jpg

The Autumnal Equinox is soon upon us, preparing us for a change in the earth’s energy as we transition into the winter season. This is the beginning of root energy and brings with it rest, re-charge and renewal. It is a time to slow down and go within, re-entering the dark womb of the spiritual world to welcome your awakening intuitive, creative and feminine energy. Ask for guidance; be open to a change in focus, or a change in direction in your life. State your intent to connect to your inner wisdom and to follow your spiritual path, embracing your feminine power and manifesting the goodness of your spirit in all you do.

Join Emma to embody all this as we enjoy a beautifully slow and feminine asana (posture) flow, moving from contraction to expansion to help illuminate and wake up to our inner wisdom, before enjoying the gift of deep rest through Yoga Nidra (guided relaxation).  This will be a truly nourishing, nurturing and inspiring session providing women of all ages with an opportunity to connect more deeply with their natural cycles and all that this reveals, so that they may own their feminine power and trust more fully in their intuition, their inner guide, to make positive choices/changes in their lives leading to greater wellbeing, empowerment and fulfilment.

Taking place at St Martins Parish Hall (opposite community centre). All women welcome, yoga suitable for all levels of ability. Please bring a mat, at least one blanket and at least one comfy pillow. £24 each, 24 spaces available. All spaces are now filled.

Why are women practicing yoga in such numbers? There are so many good reasons that it is hard to know where to start. But, in brief, the simplest answer is because yoga makes you feel good. It is a system of self-care and spiritual development that does just about everything you can think of to optimise physical and mental health; it increases flexibility, strength, balance and immunity; it improves heart function, strengthen bones, and improves co-ordination; it reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, and helps people to lose weight; it also promotes a positive outlook, a happy sex life, a sense of well-being and equanimity. In relation to women’s health in particular, yoga has a balancing effect on hormones, which helps to effectively manage menstrual and menopausal difficulties, boosts fertility and supports healthy pregnancy, birth and postnatal recovery. Very many of the health problems that women experience have their roots in stressful living patterns that deeply disconnect women from our natural life cycles, leaving us exhausted, irritated and often ill. The practice of yoga, which can be translated as ‘union’, literally reconnects women to the source of health and vitality, offering the possibility to enjoy positive physical and emotional health” Uma Dinsmore-Tuli.

A yoga class to celebrate the festival of Lammas

Come join us to give thanks for the abundance of the summer and the abundance in our lives with a class to celebrate Lammas (see more on Lammas below) in my parents’ garden (or in their industrial-sized greenhouse if it is raining) so that we may practice close to the earth, 6.15-7.30pm, £7 adults and £5 students/children, all welcome, please bring a mat. Directions below.

On the basis the weather is dry, then I’d be delighted if you’d like to stay on and join me at our stone circle for a 10 minute silent meditation sitting on the earth, angel cards and chatter (you may like to bring along a blanket and flask of tea/snack).

About Lammas - At Lammas on 1 August 2016, the hot days of August are upon us, apples are beginning to ripen and our summer vegetables are being picked. Now is the time to begin reaping what we have sown, and gathering up the first harvests of grain, wheat, oats and more. This day can be celebrated as a way to celebrate the harvest.

In early Ireland, it was a bad idea to harvest your grain any time before Lammas – it meant that the previous year’s harvest had run out early, and that was a serious failing in agricultural communities. However, the first sheaves of grain were cut by the farmer, and by nightfall his wife had made the first loaves of bread of the season.

These days, it's often easy to forget the trials and tribulations our ancestors had to endure. For us, if we need a loaf of bread we simply drive to a shop and buy a few bags of pre-packaged bread. If we run out, it's no big deal, we just go and get more. When our ancestors lived, the harvesting and processing of grain was crucial. If crops were left in the fields too long, or the bread not baked in time, families could starve. Taking care of one's crops meant the difference between life and death.

By celebrating Lammas as a harvest festival we honour our ancestors and the hard work they must have had to do in order to survive. This is a good time to give thanks for the abundance we have in our lives, and to be grateful for the food on our tables. Lammas is a time of transformation, of rebirth and new beginnings.

Directions - Turn inland opposite Vazon slipway onto Le Gele Road. At the T-junction take the first turning on your right onto La Mare Road. Drive past Elim Pentecostal Church on your right, and you will then notice the pavement ending. The road then sweeps to the left and on that sweeping left bend you will see a granite cottage with a green door and immediately after then is a track with a sign reading “La Niche Vinery”, this is us! Please drive up here and follow up to the house or park on the grass in front of the greenhouse.

Yoga on a whim - this Thursday 14 July 2016

It's all about living in the now, so we're going to make the most of the forecast sunny weather this week and hold two 'yoga on a whim' classes because we don't know what next week may bring! So this Thursday come and join me at a beautiful property (thank you Susan!) overlooking Moulin Huet. All welcome. Please bring a mat and some warm clothes just in case.  £5 each.

Directions - Directions to the house, La Moye, Ville Amphrey, St Martin, GY4 6DS: coming along Les Camps du Moulin from Manor Stores (Iceland etc) , take the 2nd left after Living Room estate agents into Ville Amphrey. Carry on down to the very bottom, past the 'dead end' signs until the road stops & becomes the water lane. Our driveway starts at the end of the road, on the left- you'll see an open farm gate to the left of an uninhabited farm house which has a sign saying "La Moye" on it. Drive in past the farmyard and on up through the granite gate posts and all the way along the private drive to the house. There is plenty of parking for a large number of cars along the private approach road- please leave the actual house driveway free for use as a turning point.
