About BeInspired

Established by Emma Despres in 2006, Be inspired aims to inspire and empower people to increase their overall sense of wellbeing by attending joyful, healing and transformative Yoga classes, Yoga & Wellbeing retreats and holistic treatments.

Furthermore, it is our intention to create within ‘Be inspired’ a community that offers a sense of belonging: where one can discover, embrace and share one’s uniqueness without fear of prejudice, and gradually grow to realise one’s true potential in this safe, nurturing and transformative environment.

We offer a regular schedule of general Yoga classes, children’s Yoga classes, private Yoga sessions, Yoga workshops, individual Reiki treatments, access to holistic practitioners, group Reiki attunements sessions and regular Yoga & Wellbeing retreats within the Channel Island and further afield.

Emma Després

Emma Després

Emma's journey as a Yoga teacher began when she qualified as a Yoga Alliance registered teacher with the Integrated South Pacific Yoga Academy (INSPYA) in Byron Bay, Australia in 2005 before undertaking further training with the Byron Yoga Centre. Upon returning to Guernsey she founded BeInspired in order to share her knowledge, joy and experience of Yoga with the local population. Emma teaches from time to time at the Nepali Yoga Centre in Nepal too.

Emma has recently completed Level 1 & 2 of the Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy training in North America and is a Member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, as well as a qualified Children’s Yoga teacher (YogaBananas, 2007) and Pregnancy Yoga teacher (Vicky Olliver, 2008).

As a UK Reiki Federation Master Teacher (2006), and Holistic Therapist (C.H.A. dip, 2009), Emma likes to combine her knowledge and experience of energy healing with the ancient Yoga teachings for a truly holistic approach to healing and life generally.

Combining her passions for travel, Yoga and writing Emma has attended a number of Yoga classes, workshops, retreats and training courses with a plethora of teachers around the world – each sharing their culture, spirit and energy and offering her an insight into her own practice and the joy of Yoga, which she loves to share with others through her teaching and writing. Emma has published articles with the European Yoga & Health magazine, the UK Yoga Magazine plus local media including Guernsey Life.

Sheila Maubec

Sheila Maubec

Sheila has been practicing yoga for over 30 years and was initially trained to teach Vinyasa Yoga by British Wheel of Yoga instructor, Wending Waring. She has since adopted more of the Kundalini tradition into her practice and has developed a strong interest in how linking the flow of breath and body uncovers deepening layers of self-awareness.

As a Reiki Master Practitioner, she also integrates knowledge from ancient systems of energy and healing body work into her understanding of yoga. Sheila holds graduate degrees in Zoology, Physiology and Biochemistry and is a Holistic therapist (C.H.A. dip).

Sheila is also an art teacher and teaches art classes on Be inspired’s Yoga and Well being retreats.

Hayley Le Marquand

Hayley Le Marquand

Hayley’s journey of yoga has taken her through 20 years of practice with local teacher Judy Whitaker to attending many workshops and retreats worldwide. Hayley has also completed the BWY Foundation Course Level 1.

When covering classes for Judy Whitaker, Hayley uses a style of posture flow asana practice founded by Desikachar that works deeply with the breath bringing awareness to the pauses between breath and movement to find stillness and a deepening into the present moment.

As a qualified holistic massage therapist and reiki practitioner she is aware of the deep need for relaxation and stillness in this ever growing fast paced world.

SO WHAT IS THE NEPALI WOMEN’S YOGA TRUST ALL ABOUT?

“Your well-being is their independence”

The Nepali Yoga Women Trust was created to help women overcome the socio-economic discrimination a lot of them face in Nepal today.

The role of many Nepali women is mostly confined to their domestic obligations, which involve cooking for the family, cleaning the household, raising the children etc. This lifestyle prevents them from maintaining a part-time job, contributing to the household income, and ultimately from living independent of male support.

Sometimes some of these women are also marginalised because of social and personal neglect.

Through the Trust’s programme, the women have the opportunity to learn holistic therapies, local handicraft skills, spoken English and self healing techniques. These activities provide them with a step towards inner-transformation, increased self-confidence and economic independence.

In the future, it is hoped that these women will not only inspire other women to work for their independence, but will be in a position to train new participants in the Trust.

WHERE IS THE TRUST LOCATED?

The Trust is located in Lakeside, Pokhara – a popular tourist and trekking destination in Nepal. The centre consists of a sewing and knitting room, a shop for the sale of handicrafts, and a room for massage training and therapy.

The women attend the Trust’s centre 6 days a week from 10:00 am to 4:00pm to accommodate their children's school schedule. They receive a monthly salary from a combination of fundraising and the sale of their handicrafts and massage treatments.

If you visit Lakeside then please support your fellow women by letting them heal you through their knowledge of natural and holistic treatments, buying some of their handicrafts or simply coming to say hello!

WHO ARE THE FOUNDERS?

Devika Gurung, who is native to Nepal and has a deep understanding of Nepali culture founded the Trust with co-owner Emma Despres, from Guernsey, in the British Isles, in November 2007.

Both qualified and reputable Yoga teachers, massage therapists and Reiki practitioners, the two women met at Devika’s Nepali Yoga Centre in Pokhara May 2007 but it was not until a month later, after a coincidental meeting in Dharamasala, India that they “clicked”.

Here they discovered a mutual passion for Yoga, healing and a heart-felt desire to help Nepali women stand on their own two feet, reasserting themselves in society and developing their untapped potential and inner skills.

Both Devika and Emma are always seeking to develop the Trust and reach more and more women from various horizons. Their work is an example of how women from very different cultures and backgrounds can direct their energy to common goals, and get very encouraging results!

CAN I VOLUNTEER?

Volunteers are always welcome at the Nepali Yoga Women Trust in Pokhara, Nepal. Due to the nature of the Trust, we only take female volunteers. Volunteers are welcome for any time length, and we can help you find suitable housing to fit your budget.

We prefer our relationship with volunteers to resemble a cultural exchange so the type of work you help with and your schedule is flexible. Previous volunteers have conducted English lessons, taught the women massage therapy techniques, and helped develop handicraft skills. New activity ideas are always welcome.

HOW CAN I DONATE?

Anyone interested in fundraising for, or donating to, the Nepali Yoga Women Trust on a personal, group or corporate basis please contact Emma

Where can I get more information?

Please visit the Trust’s website.
